Taking Up A New Habit

I’ve taken the habit of heading straight to my drawing table and drawing something for a full hour before I even wash my face, brush my teeth, open the computer or have breakfast. I’ve learned that if I do this, it puts me in the mood to draw the entire day.

Before I used to check my email first, or do some household chore, maybe go out and buy some supplies. When I do that it’s sort of hard to be inclined to sit down and draw later on.

Check out this Friendster account. It represents a magazine that I’ve done some work for. They said to keep it hush hush, but since they’ve put up an all too public Friendster account, I suppose I could talk about it.

I did a two page strip for this issue, a spoof of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! called Gerry’s Believe It or Else! It’s pretty much presented like a Believe It Or Not strip, but all of the “facts” are complete and utter bullshit. I was drawing it during our last Komikero meeting, and one of the guys actually believed one of the things I wrote there. ha! ha! Sorry, John!

I was asked to do more, but I could only come up with 2 pages for the first issue as I had a lot of other things to take care of. The strip does take some time to do because in the tradition of those Ripley’s strips, some of the drawings are drawn very realistically and meticulously, to heighten credibility. To me that makes it even more funnier when you see this really realistic illustration of a serious guy and something completely ridiculous is written about him.
