Edgar Tadeo came up with another teaser for his ELMER documentary, which has me scratching my head and thinking, Ed must be out of his mind! But the teaser looks really nice, and very well put together. Thanks Ed!

Everytime I look at the pages it reminds me of Lan’s style which I really like!
As for the teaser…hahaha! Yes! I’m out of my mind. I even ask myself why am I doing this? Anyway, can’t wait to shoot more video footage.
Cheers!

Gerry,
Wow, galing. That title frame reminds me of Jordi Bernet’s elegant lines. Rod
It was an odd trend back then to have victims die from the rape. Did they ever explain if the girl had a heart ailment?
I think that to show that the girl died from heart failure would only lessen the brutality that Rudy Florese wanted these men to have. These are really bad people, worse than we can probably imagine. She had to die from the brutality at their hands, and nothing less than that. No heart attack allowed that could possibly lessen their guilt. To portray such extremes would only make the the ultimate justice served on these men even more satisfying.
And yeah, this was a characteristic of our old komiks, and it’s a reflection of a characteristic of Filipinos as very emotional people.
“And yeah, this was a characteristic of our old komiks, and it’s a reflection of a characteristic of Filipinos as very emotional people.”
And it all came from our LATIN HERITAGE. In books, movies, human interaction – Filipinos are like the Spaniards, the French, the Italians, the Portuguese.
Whenever I am around with these people, I feel so at home. The French even dip their bread or cookie into their coffee or hot chocolate, just like the Filipinos. In Spain, you dip your TAJADA or CHURRO in CHOCOLATE. Just like the popular Chocolate con churro.
We are as passionate as these ethnic groups, hence our “KOMIKS” creations reveal this fact.
Medically, a girl’s heart can only take so much. To be raped brutally by two large men would be too much to take. Florese’s fact here is within the range of acceptable reality.
What was unacceptable was one of Carlo Caparas’ premise in the late 70s about a mother prostituting to save up enough money to save her daughter’s life through HEART TRANSPLANT. Unfortunately, in those days I was writing fact sheets for the Philippine Heart Centre for Asia, and transplant was NOT being done in the country yet.
Fear and stress would more likely explain the sudden death but that would be rare. The human body is fairly robust, the surviving ‘comfort women’ demonstrates this fact.
Rape; however atrocious we feel about it is a survivable crime. People are killed for being witnesses only later; yes, even teen victims. The rape itself would last only several minutes, unless their practicing somekind of ‘tantric’ rape.
I think the truth is, the author is trying to lessen the impact upon himself. Minimizing the viciousness of the crime by having the victim die to shorten her suffering. In a way placing death as a lesser evil.
Also, kinda odd that a couple of thugs know what necrophilia means. :P
“Also, kinda odd that a couple of thugs know what necrophilia means.”
I agree on this one. If these thugs were in a north Ameican setting, they’d sure know what necrophilia is.
But, SHOCK can kill:
“Emotional shock really can lead to a broken heart. A study at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has demonstrated that sudden emotional stress can result in reversible heart failure.
This condition mimics the classic heart attack according to Hopkins cardiologist and lead author of a recent study Dr. Ilan Wittstein. His research findings have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In a study of 19 cases of “broken heart syndrome” between 1999 and 2003, the researchers demonstrated a link between intense emotional stress and cardiac failure in otherwise healthy individuals. “
“But, SHOCK can kill:”
I agree, prolonged stress, shock, exhaustion can kill even perfectly healthy individuals. Even soldiers have been known to die from this.
But death from shock is not a common occurence, though it happens. It could be more so for people who are emotionally fragile. But for the most part, people are pretty resilient to sudden shock and stress as long as it is not sustained for prolonged periods. Let’s say days or weeks.
The very process of crying and screaming should help alleviate the effects of shock.
The syndrome you mentioned is more for mature people who may have a lot of internal baggage. The young and growing people have the capacity to adopt a lot better. Heal faster too. A childs brain will probably shut all this out and re-awaken later in life if at all.
Anyhow; my only point here is that ‘death by rape’ sort of borders on fantasy. I’d imagine it more as a male machismo fantasy to punctuate verility in a sick way.
:)
Cheers
Certainly you don’t consider ‘death by rape’ as a male machismo fantasy of the author? I think the scene exists in this comic book simply to demonstrate how evil the bad guys are, and to show how detestable and inhuman their actions are. It is there to heighten drama, and to make us really hate these guys and make us root for the good guy even more.
Although it’s not explicit in this scene, rape might not be the only thing that happened. She could have been beaten (I read that some people get off on violence during sex). She could have choked to death on semen. After all, it is in the captions that says “Kung anu-anong nakakapandiring akto ng kamunduhan ang pinaggagawa ng mga iyon kay Alisa…”
Sorry, I was not referring to the author. But the idea of it that was prevailent at the time, usually perpetuated by sensationalized media.
Oral sex is ill adviced. Small mouth, lots of teeth.
