Ninoy: Art and Essays collected by Jiggy Aquino-Cruz, a book collecting essays and artwork by Filipino writers and artists ruminating on the life of the late Benigno S. Aquino Sr., is now available at branches of Comic Odyssey and Druid’s Keep. In the photo on the left, Jiggy stands beside his grandmother, former President Corazon Aquino, widow of the late Ninoy Aquino, holding the original artwork to one of the pieces in the book, illustrated by Carlo Pagulayan.

Arists include such comic book superstars as Lan Medina, Whilce Portacio, Carlo Pagulayan and Leinil Francis Yu, and up and comers like Stephen Segovia, Jason Paz and Harvey Tolibao, who are already making their mark in various Marvel comic books.

Comic Odyssey owner Sandy Sansolis sent me a message telling me that the book is available at all his branches in Robinson’s Galleria (Ortigas), and Robinson’s Place (Malate), and that retailing at 300 pesos, all proceeds will go to the Ninoy Aquino Foundation.

There is a review of the book at the Philippine Star linked below:

Oh yeah, before I forget, I also contributed artwork for this, but if you don’t spot it right away, it’s OK because it looks nothing like anything I’ve done before.

Photos above from Carlo Pagulayan. More from his Multiply Site.

yep, it was really something different from you. but it’s still something powerful, considering the theme you were working on.

    Gerry,
I’ll be wanting a copy. Darn it, my sis-in-law is flying in today from Manila, a little late to get a copy. Next time na lang, she’s with PAL. Astig din yang si Carlo (thanks for the link to his site, Carlo saan nangyari yung Music and Arts Festival?, I think he’s one of the better Pinoy illustrators aside from Leinil. Leinil is tops of course and I want to see their illustrations in the book. More power to all the Pinoys working in American comics. Lintek, dinu-domina na naman ninyo ang comics dito. This is the most Pinoys working in comics here since the original invasion. Mabuhay kayong lahat.
