Stormy Season

Back when I was still in school, I selfishly looked forward to typhoons because it meant there were no classes. I’d wake very early in the morning, tune in to DZRH, and I waited to hear the three magic words: “Signal #2″, or better yet, Signal #3″. And then I’d spend the entire day looking out the window watching the wind and rain while listening to Big Country.

Of course, I was still very young and I really didn’t know any better. Typhoons mean destroyed homes, lost lives and crops. Still, a part of me like the rains. I like the sound of it, the coolness of the wind, and the wetness it brings to the plants and trees. It’s weather I like reading old comics to in bed. It wasn’t too long ago during a typhoon two years ago when the power was out I spent the day just lying in bed reading Essential Iron Man. And it was just the coolest thing to do.

Speaking of typhoons, here’s footage of Typhoon Milenyo, which passed right over San Pablo two years ago.

There’s a typhoon in the country right now and its name is “FRANK”. I thought it strange because I was so used to the old type of names like “Yoling” or “Warling” or “Ising”… and then we have FRANK, international name FENGSHEN.

I’ll go read comics for a while, but at the same time I am hoping and praying that nobody loses their lives, their homes, their pets and their livelihood. Good luck to us all!

Typhoon Cosme also hit us hard here at Dagupan last time. I wrote an entry about it at my blog, too. Here’s the link just in case anyone wants to check it out – http://planetmarkus.blogspot.com/2008/05/tempest.html

    Stay safe, Gerry.

In 1992(?), when a strong quake struck Baguio including Manila, we all ran out of our school building. When the faculty teachers told us to go home for our safety, one student said “sana lagi may lindol para walang klase”. Me and my classmate looked at each other and said “gago talaga yun”.

It was scary coz our highschool building was made of wood, from 1st floor to 4th floor. The only concrete were the stairs. The building was old, and after few years the building got burned down.

I just wish there are more trees in the city. Imagine a big tree with raindrop per leaves will fill half of a bucket or maybe full.
