THE SPIRIT Teaser
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEv7z9GeHdk

The Spirit movie is based on Will Eisner’s The Spirit comics series, written and directed by Frank Miller, creator of comic books like Sin City and 300, and writer of Batman: Year One, Daredevil: Born Again and Elektra: Assassin.

Frank Miller has always been very “cinematic” with the way he told stories, and with The Spirit, he’s given the chance what he would do with an actual movie. What do you all think? Would you watch this movie based on this teaser?

It’s more Miller than Eisner as of the trailer, so it’s too early to tell if it’s gonna be true to Eisner’s vision of the Spirit.
Still, I’d give Miller the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he’s doin.

The wirework seems a bit obvious, especially the part where he does a somersault. just nitpicking, I guess. :P

I hope the movie is in color, since some of the stills online are in color (but the teaser is not). It would be better if it doesn’t ape the style of Sin City.

Having said that, I’ll still be seeing the movie. Here’s hoping it will be better than the Sam J. Jones TV movie. hehe.

Oh, and just to clarify, I liked the TV movie. :)

Medyo focused siya sa movement ng character kasi visual story teller si Will Eisner. Sana di magmukhang over acting ang kalalabasan ng action scenes :)

    Gerry,
    Definitely teases.

    Reno,
Was there a Sam Jones movie? Didn’t he play Flash Gordon too?

‘di ko lang sure. Alam ko may pagka-kenkoy yung The Spirit, hindi ko maramdaman dito

I would, but I’m more of a Miller fan than an Eisner fan.

Reno, napansin ko rin yun. The landing on the roof didn’t seem convincing. Halata ngang wirework. It does tend to stick in your mind. I hope they have better quality control dun sa movie.

Pope, I know what you mean. It seems The Spirit has been “Millerized” in this teaser. From first impressions, he didn’t seem to draw from the sensibilities of Will Eisner, but rather from his own. Which is just an observation rather than a criticism. It just seemed strange that for someone who fought hard to make film adaptations of his creations be faithful to his vision (300 and Sin City were amazingly faithful), he wouldn’t do the same for Will Eisner.

The near stumble on the rooftop may seem to be a concession to the goofy sensibility of Eisner’s Spirit, but it comes off as awkward and clumsy here.

    Rod…

Yep, there was a TV movie made during the 80s. I included the IMDB link in my previous post.

From what I remember of that particular version, it tried to remain faithful to Will Eisner’s vision. Sam Jones’ Denny Colt was not invincible, his clothes were always getting torn, just like Will Eisner’s version.

I just hope the new movie will make up its mind if it’s gonna be played straight or a bit goofy (like Eisner’s). Any route is acceptable to me, but not a combination of the two, which rarely works in the movies. It may work on the comics page, but not on screen (at least in my opinion).

Reminded me of what else…? Sin City. Hmmm…but I’m curious on FM’s take on this movie.

    looks great to me :)

interesting that they used the music from THE UNTOUCHABLES

I just found it strange that they would print that awkward landing, unless it was intended to go with the comic book-y voice over, complete with screaming damsel in distress.

Given that, there might be a camp factor in this movie. A strong sense of nostalgia. I don’t know if it’ll work for today’s audiences, or if Miller can actually pull that off.

Another Sin City? Much better sana.

    well, kuha yung pagtakbo…
