This is probably my favorite Francisco V. Coching cover. It depicts(?) a scene from Pulot-Gata. There’s a question mark there because the scene (as depicted exactly here), doesn’t actually happen in the story. Clearly it is a homage of sorts to Romeo and Juliet, but I haven’t read enough of Pulot-Gata to know for sure if it is a Romeo and Juliet story. I do know that the two characters, at this point in the story, are slowly getting attracted to each other, with other characters having something against their relationship. The female character doesn’t live in a house like it is depicted in the cover, nor does she dress that way. In reality, all that stands between them is a 5-foot hollow block wall that separates their two houses. The girl is rich, and the guy isn’t. Perhaps it is a fantasy depiction of what they both dream their relationship must be like, or it is probably simply a representation of their relationship overall.
In any case, I just love this cover. I love how it is drawn, and how it is composed and laid out. I was so lucky no one else bid on this comic book when it came up on ebay a couple of weeks ago. In addition to this, I also got another Pulot-Gata cover from Coching, depicting a boxing scene. Another classic cover, in my opinion, which I will post soon.
There are many classic Filipino komiks and original artwork appearing on Ebay on a regular basis. I’ve actually been avoiding looking because I’ll just be frustrated seeing things I cannot afford. Buying vintage komiks and artwork off Ebay right now is simply out of my budget. But when I saw this cover, I knew I just had to get it, no matter what.

Gerry,
Magkano ito sa ebay? When I think of all the comics I lost in that flood, including of course Pulot Gata, gusto kong pukpuking ang ulo ko for leaving them on the ground floor of our house, when I went abroad. The hero here in Pulot-Gata, Galo, if I remember correctly, is a boxer, can’t remember much of the story. Except one scene stands out in my mind. Galo was ask to stand-in for a sparring partner, he gets hit square on the jaw, he also accidentally hits the pro on the jaw, sabay nagkatamaan yung dalawa. Tulog yung kalaban, while Galo still standing and apologetic no end. I think the girl’s name was Nona.
Rod
Hello Rod! This issue went for, I think P1000. Yes, I think the girl’s name is Nona. Another character whose name is Choy looks like Dolphy. There’s a lot of old komiks available right now, with titles like Dyagan and Horror, etc.

There’s also a bunch of original art from Hal Santiago.

Gerry this cover is awesome.
He=he. Biro lang Manoy Flor.
PANDAK yung lalaki, kaya nakatingala sa babae. But nice Levi’s jeans. :P
Loko kayo. he.he.
Rob,
Rob,
