Jesus Shaves by Dengcoy Miel

I attended the opening of the FoEM Art Exhibit at the Art Center in SM Megamall, having been invited by one of the exhibitors, Filipino cartoonist Dengcoy Miel. Among the painters, sculptors and artists of various kinds, two other cartoonists had paintings on exhibit including Dante Perez and Tence Ruiz.

The artwork on display were simply mindblowing, to say the least. I’m always amazed whenever comics people exert themselves in different directions as it’s proof beyond anything else, that comics is not the only thing we can do.

Speaking of cartoonists who branched out into other fields of art, next door to the Art Center is the Crucible Gallery, which was the venue of Tony DeZuniga’s art exhibit last year, as well as Mauro Malang Santos’ exhibit recently. I was able to buy Malang’s book “The Forgotten Malang”, A Career in Cartoons, which collects a selection of Malang’s cartoons. I’ll be talking more about this in my next post.
