Joe D’Mango’s Love Notes

At long last, this title finally comes out. This was actually set to be the very first mass scale tagalog 10 peso komiks, back when Mango Comics was still the editorial team handling Sterling Publications’ comic books, long before Carlo J. Caparas came into the picture.

The history of this comic book has been a long, troubled, and rather confusing one. Even I don’t completely know all the facts surrounding how this eventually came to be. But what I do know is that in recent months, another group was supposed to have taken over producing this comic book with new fresh artists, a whole different production design, and a whole new outlook to Philippine komiks.

I really can’t comment further except to say that I’ve seen it. And that it looks familiar. Except for it being published by Sterling, there’s no information inside about who the editorial team is.

    Sana man lang, kahit i-trinace sa platito yung circle. It would probably contribute a little to removing the impression that it took a total of 5 minutes to draw the cover.

    Robby, I noticed that the cover is actually a blow up of a bit of interior art. Pero oo nga. Di naman ganun kamahal ang protractor, or at least sa computer na lang.

    Tali at thumbtacks mura lang. But seriously, isn’t it conventional wisdom that the cover is usually the strongest factor that determines sales? Or is it so untrue for komiks that local publishers treat it as an afterthought?

    I saw this sa bangketa. I had to think twice if I was going to buy it. I thought the cover was really bad and it struck me that if they can’t do a decent cover, then how about the interiors?

    It’s something that I can’t say if we Filipinos will be proud of na pwede natin ibandera na “Hey, Filipinos have comics too! Check it out!” And then people will say “Is that it?”

    We should do something we can display as trophies. Even a scrap wood can be a good trophy if it’s sculpted nicely.

    Si D’ Mango ? expert kuno iyan sa mga Love Life /Affairs, parang male version ni Tiya Dely, kaya lang puro lang talaga sa topic ng AMORE….

    At bakit naman nagpuputok ang butsi nitong si Cathy ? kamag-anak ba niya yung artist ?

    JM, Auggie… nakita ko yung site nung nagpost na yun. Hindi sya Filipino. Puntahan nyo at andun ang link sa pangalan nya. Mukha namang walang malisya ang pagkacomment nya at mukhang napasyal at nakakita ng drawing ng nagyayakapan at siguro natuwa sa drawing, kahit ganun pa man.

    I don’t think “Cathy” put that comment. Anyone can put any name and link into anybody else’s website and claim that that comment was that person’s.

    Pero kung ako din magtatanggol ng ganito eh hindi rin siguro ako magpapakilala.
