Sorry for the lack of updates. November and December has just been insanely busy and hectic for me. I still have a lot of work to finish. There’s things I have to finish before 2008 and I hate that it’s taking me so long. I’ll be working right through Christmas just to get these things done.

I did have a pleasant diversion for a couple of days seeing Taylor Hicks live in Manila for 2 days. Check out my Multiply account for the videos. Yes, Ilyn did meet with Taylor, which is just fantastic. Him coming over here was so unexpected that it really threw us for a loop.

My term as 2-D Post teacher, the subject also known as “Comics Illustration” at the College of St. Benilde has finished. I’m on for just one term and I have to say that the experience has just been terrific. I love teaching, but it’s unfortunate that I’m unable to continue.

My class is a great group of young people, with a couple of very promising future comic book superstars. I hope I could have included everyone in the photo, but at least 4 of them aren’t in it. I will soon be writing down my entire lesson plan on this blog for everyone. I may not be able to teach at school anymore, but at least I hope some young artist would be able to learn something from what I write here.

A while back I wrote about Jonas Diego, and that you ought to watch out for him. Well, check out his comic book site here, and you’ll be surprised at the kind of things him and his talented group of artists have in store for 2008.

His comics is one significant step up in the development of the local komiks, in what is hopefully one in many steps that would elevate Philippine komiks to unheard of heights.

As for myself, I will continue to do what I’ve always done. I’ll do my comics my own way, post artwork of great Philippine komiks artists on this blog and at the online museum, and give occasional talks/write ups about the state of the industry on this blog or elsewhere.

There is an expectation of me, because of the things I do and write, to do something so much more. People are talking about me being a sort of spokesperson for something, or being the leader of something. Please make no such expectations of me. I do what I’m able to do and all that I’m already willing to do. I have no interest or any inclination to be in any sort of position in a group for comics or anything else.

I have no interest or inclination to any of those things because to me they’re nothing but distractions to what I consider ultimately important to me as a comic book creator, and that’s creating comics. It is in creating comics I can best serve this industry and Philippine comics. That is where I believe my talent lies, that is where I can serve the best. Anything else is secondary.

If you want to look for leaders, look to Jonas, who has proven himself to be an excellent leader of people, an excellent organizer and businessman. Look to people like Ariel Atienza, Syeri Baet, and John Becaro, young artists who have the love and passion for the industry.

Just think of me as nothing more than a comic book creator, that’s all. That said, I have a lot of things in store for 2008. I just have to finish this last bit of work, so I have to go, and you all have a Merry Christmas!

See you all again in the new year.

    Gerry,

That maybe so, still, you are regarded as the vanguard of these young Komikeros being so articulate in both the written and oral communication that speaks to them. You were the first to put up a website about Comics which created an impact globally, wherein kindred spirits where able to exchange views and meet in cyberspace( The Grand Kapre, JM Lee, Robbyvil, EvermSamson, KC, Mario,Rod Samonte etc. etc,).And we surely are grateful to you for providing the venue to exchange information not only about comics but almost every topic under the sun. Where else, but at PKMB.

Maligayang Pasko sa iyo at ki Ilyn !

    Season’s Greetings for ’07-’08!!

Hope 2008 is good to you and yours.

Wish there’s less manga and more Old School comics being reprinted in the new year. I’d love to see beautiful books on Nino, Hal Santiago, DeZuniga, etc. alongside my copies of EC reprints Frazetta, Krenkel, Wally Wood, etc.. Guess I can only wish for now…

“They believe that he is graced by different gods, because of his amizing talents.”

oh, man, it has to be read to be believed. really, i think it’s one if his better works.

  13. Noel on December 27th, 2007 9:48 am

Okay, this is to answer Auggie’s question regarding my EC/Russ Cochran reprints. What I’ve got so far were purchased via ebay. Not the cheapest hobby to get into.

  14. Gerry Alanguilan on December 27th, 2007 11:22 am

Adam, oh yeah, I read that. I’m not really surprised anymore by what people write about him. In fact, I’ve come to expect it.

  15. Gerry Alanguilan on December 27th, 2007 11:23 am

Thanks Auggie… thanks everyone who commented. Much appreciated! Bagong taon na! Yeah! I hope 2008 will be a great year for komiks.
