For those of you who get your comics at Druid’s Keep in Magallanes, Elmer #3 is now available at the shop! We passed by on the way home from the “Pasko ng Komiks” Symposium at the UP.
About the symposium, I was rather disappointed that not too many people were there when we started at 9am. I was the first to speak, and I felt that it was too bad that not too many people were able to catch my lecture. I felt I had a lot of things to say that were at the very root of the problems of the comics industry, which would best be heard by the people interested and involved in the industry.
I felt a pang of disappointment when people started to arrive just as I finished talking. It was kind of funny, actually. But I am deeply thankful to those people who arrived early, who were obviously morning persons just like me.
(UPDATE) You can have a listen to my lecture here:
I’m also very grateful to Read or Die for taking their involvement in Philippine comics a step further by organizing the event. When I first encountered Read or Die early this year during their first convention, I felt that comics were not an integral part of their agenda. They rectified the situation almost immediately by featuring comics more in their activities. And now by December, they launched this full scale symposium on this very subject. And I think it’s terrific! Thanks to Kristin and everyone else at Read or Die! You guys rock!
I’m overwhelmed at the response I get to my Taylor Hicks post (below), and it’s made me see how great a group of people my wife Ilyn has found online. I’m really touched, to be quite honest. Thank you very much to every one of you! I am glad to say that there have been responses to my inquiry that brings the chances of us meeting Taylor to be quite good. YEAH!
