CHICKEN JOY: The Elmer Comic Book Documentary

Edgar Tadeo created this documentary on Elmer, and I guess on me as well. When he first approached me about this, I thought sure! It could be fun. I didn’t realize Ed was going to go completely hardcore on me with this documentary stuff. Holy Shit! When I first saw a semi finished version of it, I really didn’t know what to say. Ed put a lot of work into this. As in a LOT of work! It’s miles away ahead of anything I could ever do with my silly videos in terms of technique and professionalism. It’s not just a mini documentary as Ed says, but a real honest to goodness documentary that’s really well done. Ed is a man of many skills, I’m awed.

And I thought… why ME? I mean, Ed, come on. I’m extremely flattered but jeez. I’m not sure if I’m worth all this time and effort. Don’t take me wrong. I appreciate this very much. Like I said, it’s so flattering that I’m embarrassed just talking about it.

Then I started thinking more. Why would Ed do this? I kept scratching my head over that one. Then it dawned on me. Maybe Ed loves me. Yeah, I think Ed loves me. And well Ed, I’ve got news for you. I love you man!

We thought about giving it away at Komikon, and I managed to give away a couple, but I just plain forgot about it what with all the drama surrounding Elmer #3. So I thought I’d just upload it up You Tube. I’ve got a director’s account so I can upload long videos like this.

If I haven’t made it plain, Ed. Thanks very much for this. I really don’t know what else to say. You rock, man!

    Dang! Hindi ko alam kung paano ko sasabihin; I guess “Wow”, “Awesome” and other superlatives would not be enough. This is an outstanding work by Ed Tadeo! I’ve always wondered how Gerry got his start in comics and, well…there you go!

    Great job, Ed Tadeo! Thank you for making such a wonderful documentary. Gerry, you are a wonderful subject for a documentary like this. Thanks for being an inspiration!

    Haha! Ewan ko, Gerry. Pero, man…you’re the voice of Filipino komiks. You never get tired of voicing out what’s good for our almost forgotten culture–ang komiks.

    Naging inspiration ka sa lahat, sa tingin ko. Dahil sa sinimulan mong WASTED, sunod-sunod nang naglabasan ang ibang mga komiks na independents. I think I made this mini-docu coz I’m one of those people who want to publish a creator-owned book someday, starting from smaller to bigger numbers.

    Honestly, I’m a person who wanted to try everything, which has an “art” in it. Maybe soon you’ll see me sculpting, which I haven’t fully tried on a modeling clay. Or walk and dance on wires? Tattooing? Hehehehe.

    It was fun doing the docu-film, althought I’m lack of materials to slump in the docu. But I guess you’ll still get the point of this “film”.
