This is why I hate politics. We had the Barangay Elections last month. The sitting Barangay Captain was running again. I had no problems with him, and was quite helpful when I needed Barangay stuff so I had no problem voting him in again. On election day he was joking some distance away from the voting center if he was going to break out the fireworks or not. It was 10am and I thought it was still a little too early to tell.
Well, he lost, in a matter of a few hundred votes. Thems the breaks, but that’s the democratic process.
Isn’t it damned curious that since the election last October 29, the garbage trucks stopped coming to our street? It’s been more than TWO WEEKS since the last one passed by. Before October 29 they used to pass by a couple of times a week.
Does the garbage collection depend on the whims of the Barangay Captain? What the hell? What, is THIS revenge for not voting the guy? Is this his telling us, “This is what you get for not voting me, bastards.”
How petty. How FUCKING petty.

It figures. Politics is like garbage. Both are stinking!
Gerry,
It’s not the Barangay Captain’s fault. There’s a public meeting by our counselors regarding increasing the collection/tax required to be paid by private businesses for garbage collections. They didn’t get the increase.
Thanks for letting me know, Harold. Since you seem to be in the know, I’m curious as to what we residents have to do with collection taxes to be paid by private businesses. We’re not businesses. We’re taxpayers who are entitled to the basic public services, one of which is the collection of garbage.
The strange thing is, it’s happened before. Every time there’s an election, there’s a flurry of garbage trucks coming here. And immediately after the election and results come in, the garbage trucks stop coming. The pattern is simply too coincidental to be ignored.
But I’m not too worried. It will be December in a couple of weeks and I fully expect that they will be back… probably everyday at least until December 24.
Ah, ‘yang collection of garbage naman before Christmas is the “initiative” of the garbagemen naman. Para maabutan ng konting “aginaldo.”
I remember when I lived in Parañaque, the garbage truck only came ONCE A MONTH. By then, our garbage cans were full of maggots. That’s why I brought our garbage to Makati everyday and threw it there, or else mabubulok sa bahay namin.
Kaya sa mga taga-Parañaque, HUWAG NANG IBOTO SI OLIVARES O SI JOEY MARQUEZ, ha?
If I may….ganun rin rito sa amin in Butuan City, Mindanao….pero galing ng spin doctor rito…walang garbage pickup dahil…zero waste management policy raw….i-compost raw namin lahat…what’s left ibenta raw namin sa mga junkyard or recyclers….sariling sikap ika nga…so we do what Reno does also….we just haul it to the dumpsite ourselves.
I empthize with you, guys. That’s indeed, pardon the pun, a garbage bag of crap.
Same thing here in Lapu-Lapu City. I wonder, though, if its entirely the unre-elected barangay chief’s fault? I think garbage men employed by an outgoing chief fear being replaced by the new chief or receiving nothing if they do their job before a new chief takes office.
Peace.
kung maiisip mo, pag kumuha ka ng permit sa city hall, kasama sa babayaran ng company mo ay ang garbage collection na fee. Buti sa Pasig kumukuha naman sila every other day.
