Francisco V. Coching’s EL INDIO Collection
Filed Under Books, Filipino Artists, Philippine Comics | 14 Comments

It’s taken a long time, but the digital restoration of Francisco V. Coching’s EL INDIO is finally complete! I have to thank Zara Macandili for coming in and helping me restore more than half of these 170 pages. However, there is still a bit of work to be done, including the layout of the book and collecting various supplemental materials. Since this will now have a different publisher, a big time publisher who is also putting together a huge Coching book, the release date will be up to them. Since it’s now less than a month till Komikon, I’m not completely sure if it will be released there. But at least as far as El Indio is concerned, the hard part is finally over.
I can now concentrate on Elmer #3, which is probably the only thing I can guarantee (at this point) that will be released at the Komikon because I’ll be the one to publish it. And besides, if I don’t finish Elmer #3 in time for Komikon, I just better jump off a building. So it HAS to come out.
I know I asked a few people for assistance in acquiring a good scan of this El Indio cover from 1953. I got this one from Filipino illustrator Franc Reyes. Thanks very much sir! I had to do a bit of digital restoration on this cover itself, removing the original “Pilipino Komiks” title, the dates, price and some damage around the edges. I transported one of the “El Indio” title logos from the inside pages, colored it, and placed it on top and then placed Coching’s name at the bottom. I wanted all elements of the cover to have been created by Coching himself, unlike my original temp cover.

Ahhhgghh!!! Sana matuloy sa Komikon!
Pero kung hindi, paki-advice kami kung saan puwede bilhin.
Buti yung ELMER aabot. Yung HUMANIS REX sana umabot din.
Nice work on the layout and restoration of the cover. It doesn’t look like it’s been altered.
Gerry,
Pwede na bang magpa-reserve ng kopya ? o mag place ng order ? could you quote a price ? salamat….
There are a total of six covers of El Indio during its serialization in Pilipino Komiks and for me this is the best cover for the compilation. Reserve mo na ko ng copy ha.
Regarding sa covers, email na lang tayo when to meet. Nasa akin na yung four covers including that one, hinahanap pa yung dalawa. :-)
JM, Auggie… wala pa akong quote kung magkano at kung saan lalabas. Pero since malaki itong publisher malamang lumabas ito sa mga major book stores dito sa Pilipinas including National. Pag may additional details ako post ko dito. :)
Salamat Erwin! Mayroon akong original komiks na may El Indio cover… yung back to back yung dalawang character in a duel. Kung apat lang ang cover ng El Indio, dalawa na lang kulang ko. :D
Gerry
Puwede bang padalhan mo ako ng 5 copies? I will pay for the shipping costs.Pag dumating dito, i will send you a check.Please….
DB
congratulations! i’m really excited to read this…
Will there be a way for those of us in the States to purchase said book?
Hello Dell!
I’ll definitely be setting aside copies for you. :)
Hello Dirk! The publisher mostly distributes locally, meaning here in the Philippines. However, they might make it available at several locally based web stores like Kabayancentral.com which already has several local comic book titles available in their catalog.
I will strongly recommend though, that they try and make it available through sellers like Bud Plant. I’ll bring this up with them when I meet with the publisher.
this comics and project of yours drives me a reason to attend the komikon hhehheh
Gerry, thanks for this… excellent!
Gerry,
How did you get distribution at Comic Oddysey in Pasadena for Elmer? Maybe you can suggest that too, to this publisher.
Rod
Gerry,
Congrats! Great job!
That’s a great idea recommending Bud Plant since they’re great supporters of classic illustration! Can’t wait to get my hands on this book!
