Apologies for the lack of updates. I’ve been extremely busy with inking Ultimate Avengers as I come close to finishing our last few issues. Here’s a detail from the cover to our 2nd issue which is already available now.
And yeah, check out the June 2010 issue of Playboy Philippines, which may well be considered the GEEK issue for all the geekiness that permeates it. It’s so geeky you start to sort of wonder what are all these nude women doing cluttering up this magazine?

Aside from my interview, which was conducted by Mikhail Lecaros, there’s interviews with a bunch of other Filipino comic book creators like Danny Acuña, Gilbert Monsanto, Jon Zamar, Gener Pedrina, Jonas Diego and Boboy Yonzon conducted by Robin C. Rivero, featuring artwork by myself, Edgar Tadeo, Nestor Redondo, Clem Rivera and Gilbert Monsanto.
There’s an 8 page comics story “The Love Eaters” by Andrew Drilon.
Cartoon character Marge Simpson gets naked!
There’s an article on “Making New Mythologies” by Regina Layug-Rosero, which came with images of Darth Vader, Thor, Buffy, Hellboy, and Iron Man.
There’s an article called “2010: The Best Year in Gaming?”, a 6-page article on computer games!
There’s another article which features sci-fi cars such as Kitt from Knight Rider, the DeLorean in Back to the Future, the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, the Batmoble (from the TV series), The Black Beauty from the Green Hornet and Bumblebee from the Transformers movie.
Oh yeah, movie reviews of the A-Team and The Karate Kid.
And if that weren’t enough, there’s also a Twenty Questions interview with Neil Gaiman!
This is what happens! This is what happens when we let these damn fool kids run amuck! What next? Comic book creators doing porn movies? Oh yeah! Come to think of it, OH NO!

The geeks are taking over the world. Geeks rule! He he he! :D
Muntik nang mag two page pic mo ser, ala center fold. :D
Wow Gerry…di ka na namin maabot! Making it to Playboy Magazine… classmate, you rock!!!
Hehe. Di ka ba nabulag, Vicky? :)
Mark, oo na ano?
Tama ka dyan Jonas! I hear UNO mag also had a geek issue recently.
Siguro ginagawa na nila talagang “play” as in “laro” ang magazine. So meron video games, toys at gadgets.
Yeah, one of their associate editors is a geek and a fellow blogger. :D
kelangan ko bumili neto!
Ang galing mo, Gerry. Ang galing ng Pinoy.
Playboy has nudity? Whoa!
Meron na, Rai. They’re sneaking it in (or out) one article of clothing at a time. :D
Well chief, for me reading local men’s mag feels like eating candy with the wrapper still on it…I feel cheated sometimes but if any one of us in the komiks community is in one, I’d buy it!
Gerry,
Congrats on both counts: the Playboy article and the new inking job. Is that Leinil’s pencils? Can’t wait for the issues to come out. Who’s coloring? Maybe you should go ahead and color it. Hahaha. If not Edgar Tadeo may be the man, making it an all-Pilipino effort.

Waw, Playboy! Different level na yan, Ger! Ka-level mo na ang Beatles, Arnold Schwarzenneger, Steven Spielberg, Steve Jobs, at yung iba pang pogi na ininterview sa past (well, ok, that’s the American edition but it’s the same magazine).
Congrats on the article!
San kayang magazine susunod na pagsulpot ng mga komiks no? nakakatuwa!
Gilbert, siguro kung meron Top Gear Philippines mag baka magkaroon na rin ng interview ng mga taga komiks dun…topic: How will you design your superhero car for a favourite superhero of yours? Man, fail na nga yung Spider-mobile eh tapos gagawan pa natin. Waha!
Cool stuff Gerry. I’d love to see more inked work, you’re the man!
nice article! good stuff about Komik history, but i was hoping to read more about your personal work. and i heartily agree that superheroes don’t fit the Philippine setting.
