Back to Inking!

I come back to inking in a BIG way with Ultimate Comics Avengers 2, #1! The issue is already out, and Leinil Francis Yu and I will be launching the title tomorrow during Free Comic Book Day, at Comic Odyssey, Robinson’s Galleria. We’ll be signing, along with Edgar Tadeo, and possibly Jay Anacleto, from 1-3pm.
But if it’s the FREE COMICS you’re after, be at the store early, as early as the mall opens at 10am to claim first dibs on the awesome stuff, whatever it is!
After quitting (OK, “taking a break” is now my official line) inking comics in 2005 to concentrate on making my own comics, I feel I’ve accomplished enough to be comfortable to go back to inking again. This doesn’t mean I won’t be doing anymore of my own stuff. Amazing Doctor Rizal is still scheduled for Komikon this November, and as soon as I catch a break, I’ll continue to deal with Martians in a comic book project I’m drawing and coloring. I took a break from that for a while, but as soon as I catch a bit more time, I’ll continue working on it.
I have to say I really missed inking. When I used to visit Leinil’s place when he was doing Secret Invasion and Ultimate Hulk Vs. Wolverine, I would look at the pages on his table and imagine how I would ink them in my mind. I couldn’t admit it to Leinil at the time, but I really missed it. I had joked to Leinil that I’d only ink him again if he gets to work with Mark Millar.
Me coming back to work with Leinil on a Mark Millar project is quite honestly a coincidence. I was prepared to ink whatever Leinil was working on after he finished Secret Invasion. It just so happened to be Ultimate Comics Avengers with Mark Millar, and I couldn’t be more happier.
I’ve been impressed with Mark’s writing ever since I read his work in his old Saviour series published by Trident from the UK. I read a couple of installments and they were both frighteningly awesome. This was a long time ago. Back then I thought…. wow, this Millar fella is gonna go places. And he did, and he continues to do so.
See you tomorrow! Bring your Elmers and your Wasteds and all the other stuff you want signed. I’ll sign them all!

welcome back kuya gerry! saw the interior art for this one, and we surely missed your inks over leinil’s pencils! awesome work, i was awed with the punisher-cap page! coolness! congrats and see you tomorrow! :D
Congrats! :)
Sayang, ‘di ako pwede magkulay. Kasi sabi ko, one-shot lang ang kukulayan kong gawa nyo ni Nil…pero marami pala yan. Hehehe! Pero at the same time I have projects of inking too. So here we are again, ‘no? Besides, my Wacom is messing up; may sumpong minsan. :)
Ganda ng pages nyo. Sandy showed it to me. Good job!
Gerry,
I’m back in the U.S. But man, oh man, and darn, double darn, my visit to Manila (April 18 to April 30) was book-ended by the SummerCon 2010, April 18, and now I’ve missed this launching on May 1, by exactly one day too. Oh, well. However, I did manage to go the National Museum to view the Botong Francisco Coching exhibit. Hanep ang mga originals ni Coching, world-class talaga. Of course I bought the book and a few copies of Lapu-Lapu (which was so cheap). I guess we’ll meet on some other visit. Good to hear you’re back to inking, and especially over Leinil.
