Komikon Summer de avance (or Summer Komikon) is this Saturday, April 17, 2010! It will be at the Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. Doors open at 10am!

There are plenty of cool sounding new komiks that are set to be launched simultaneously at this event. The first thing that got my notice was this comic book Laban! A Love Story by Jose Gamboa, which is a comic book on Ninoy and Cory Aquino. I’m told it’s not what I would expect it to be. Let’s see!

Check out the comic book’s Facebook page for info/contests/promos!

One of my favorite new creators, Josel Nicolas (who is currently corrupting innocent minds on the pages of K-Zone!) is coming out with “The El Bimbo Adaptations” based on Adam David’s El Bimbo Variations.

My own Komikero Artist’s Group is coming out with it’s SIXTH anthology!

This issue includes the print version of my online story “EUGENE”.

It also includes more of Hazel Manzano‘s autobiographical comics, which continues to impress me with it’s naked honesty and frank retelling. Incidentally, Hazel is also launching her own book “Proud Callboy“.

Gilbert Monsanto and the Bayan Knights gang is launching the 4th issue of Bayan Knights! They currently have a “Guess the cover artist” contest, which you can join here!

Old pal Edgar Tadeo is coming out with YSB #3 featuring his newest creation Jacara Zar!

The veterans go indie with Philippine Adventure and Romance Stories #1!

For more info on this title, click here.

Oh yes, I’m also launching Umlauts and Atom Bombs #1. It may be a new title, but it’s not all completely new.

It will have a new six page story “Mitch and Mischa“, written by me and illustrated by Marivi Hilos Nepomuceno. It’s the first of the many tributes I’ll be doing for my good friend Arlan Esmeña, who recently passed away.

It will also bring back in print “July 16″ from my very first Dead Heart Stories from 1996. It’s a story that hasn’t been in print since.

Check out this page for more new releases at the Komikon!

I recognize the efforts that you are doing for the Phil Komiks industry.
I am Vivian Mawis, an entrepreneur in the Semicon industry. I am the attorney-in-fact of Jim Fernandez to handle his interest in the Phil. As such, I was the one who sold the TV rights over Anak ni Zuma in behalf of Jim Fernandez.
Carlo J. Caparas has nothing to do with it. This is for the purpose of setting the record straight.

    Brgds,

    Gerry,
Is the illustration on the poster a composite of several artist, or one artist? Ang ganda.

    I’d definitely go! :) Komikon!

  8. Gerry Alanguilan on March 16th, 2010 6:50 am

    Hello Rod!

Yes, it is a jam poster of several artists. Whoever created the character is the one who drew it. Pol Medina drew Polgas for instance, Carlo drew Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah while I drew Elmer and so on. Jon Zamar put it all together in this layout.

  9. ROMIWORKS® on March 16th, 2010 8:34 am

AYUUUS! gandang ibandera nito sa edsa na billboard!!!

  10. Auggie on March 16th, 2010 10:03 am

Ito bang si JON ZAMAR, eh anak ni JUN ZAMAR of Sorsogon? please advice, thanks….

  11. Jon Zamar on March 16th, 2010 11:14 am

    Sir Auggie,

Opo anak po ako ni Jun Zamar. Nabanggit nga po niya kayo before.

    Jon

  12. Auggie on March 16th, 2010 12:54 pm

    Jon,

Nakabalik na ba si Paderez mo from Palau? Uuwi ka ba sa Bicol sa Holy Week?. Magaling itong Layout mo rito ah… matutuwa si Sir JM, at Super Kapre dito sa gawa mo!

  13. Jon Zamar on March 16th, 2010 2:26 pm

    Sir Auggie,

Yep nakabalik na dad ko, last month pa ho. Di ko po sigurado kung makakauwi kami para holy week.

    Jon

  14. Pinoy Comics USA on March 16th, 2010 11:34 pm

    Gerry, Jon,
Thanks. Congrats Jon on the great poster. Did you start from black and white and colored the characters? I’ve never seen Elmer colored like that. Well, of course not, Elmer is black and white except for the covers.
    Rod

  15. Jerome Dizon on March 17th, 2010 7:35 am

    Gerry

first time ko sa komikon.. ask ko lang.. ilang komiks ang pwede ko pa pirmahan sayo? :)

andun din ba si Leinil at jay anacleto?

  16. Gerry Alanguilan on March 17th, 2010 8:05 am

Hey Jerome…. kahit ilan pwede sa akin. Kukulitin ko si Nil to come. May lugar naman sya sa table ko all the time e. I have two tables at the Summer Komikon this year.

  17. Gerry Alanguilan on March 17th, 2010 8:06 am

I sent in a colored file of Elmer, pero dinagdagan ng konting kintab, para siguro maging consistent sa iba.

  18. Pinoy Comics USA on March 17th, 2010 8:43 am

    Gerry,
Modern Philippine Komiks (as oppose to the Golden Age Komiks characters of Darna, Ukala,Tulisang Pugot, Bondying, etc.) seem to be collecting quite an array of super-heroes/characters. I’m afraid I’m quite lost now as to who those characters are aside from the obvious Zsa-Zsa Zaturnah, Pulgas and Elmer. Who are the two Superhero-like characters between Zsa-Zsa, the little robot on her right boob, the Anime character and all the others? And who are the artist/creators?
    Rod

  19. Gerry Alanguilan on March 17th, 2010 9:36 am

Hello Rod… as far as I know it… from left: Polgas (holding the cellphone) from Pugad Baby by Pol Medina, Sarhento Sagrado from Bayan Knights by Gilbert Monsanto, Zsa Zsa, the little guy on Zsazsa’s breast is a character from Kubori Kikiam by Michael David, the one in black is from Trese, by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, the little guy holding the isaw is a character from Kikomachine Komiks by Manix Abrera. I’m not sure where the others are from though, but they’re all familiar to me.

  20. Jerome Dizon on March 17th, 2010 10:47 am

    Thanks Gerry,

dami ko dadalhing komiks pa uwing pinas hehehe.
hahanapin ko na yung HIgh Roads ko :)

  21. Pinoy Comics USA on March 17th, 2010 11:09 am

    Gerry,
Ah, that’s another komiks I’ll be looking for – Trese, when I’m in Manila next month. I think that’s widely available in bookstores. Will look for more of Pol Medina’s books, my wife’s got a collection, and she just loves to read them. Saan ba gaganapin itong Summer Komikon. Is that one day only on April 17? Unfortunately, I’m arriving April 18. Would love to go, sayang.
    Rod

  22. Gerry Alanguilan on March 17th, 2010 11:49 am

Hello Rod! Baka naman pwedeng ma reschedule ang flight mo ng two days earlier. I’m sure something like that can be worked out. Matagal pa naman e. I think you’ll enjoy Komikon!

  23. Ariel on March 17th, 2010 11:50 am

Erratum: Benigno “Igno” Ramos (“balikbayan” na pinsan ni Tomas Sabaybunot is the one holding the cellphone.

  24. Jon Zamar on March 17th, 2010 9:26 pm

From Left to right Igno of Pugad Baboy by Pol Medina, Sgt. Sagrado of Bayan Knights by Gilbert Monsanto, Zsa Zsa Zaturnah by Carlo Vergara, Benjo of Kubori Kikiam by Michael David, Elmer by Gerry Alanguilan, Dante of Pasig by Melvin Calingo, Budjette Tan’s Trese by Kajo Baldisimo, Spiky haired character of Kikomachine by Manix Abrera (wala talaga siyang pangalan for some reason), Marco Dimaano’s Michiko of Ninja Girl KO by Kriss Sison, Jimmy of Beerkada by Lyndon Gregorio and the kalabaw from Alipin by Jess Abrera. My thanks to all the artist that contributed.

  25. Pinoy Comics USA on March 17th, 2010 10:43 pm

    Gerry,
Sana nga, but my wife works till the 16th, we’re cutting it close by leaving that night. But unfortunately we loose one day enroute and actually arrive April 18, Manila time. Kasama lang ako sa esmi, to celebrate her mother’s 90th birthday.

  26. Gerry Alanguilan on March 18th, 2010 1:32 am

Hey Rod! If your plane actually goes around the opposite way to the Philippines, will you actually gain a day and arrive here on the 15th? It doesn’t work like that, doesn’t it? Pardon me, I’m kinda tired. And sleepy. :D

  27. Jerome Dizon on March 18th, 2010 6:23 am

    hi sir gerry,
sadly i missed komikon because of school…any idea where i can buy these new releases so i can give em a read?

  35. Gerry Alanguilan on April 24th, 2010 10:51 pm

Sputnik at Cubao X is probably your best bet to get many of these titles, along with Comic Quest at Megamall, Comic Odyssey in Robinson’s Galleria, and Druid’s Keep at Magallanes. You can try searching for the titles online to get the contact info of the creators of each book. They would most likely jump at the chance to sell their comics to you directly.
