Hey, That Looks Like…. NO WAY!!

This series of panels come from the story “PASADA” written by Arthur F. Mentes and illustrated by Pol Niño, published in Pinoy Klasiks #1327, July 2, 1991 by GASI.

At quick glance it seems like a typical short sci fi story with a goofy looking alien. But then, upon closer inspection, there’s a lot going on here than you might have thought. In hindsight… how can something like that even be missed? They’re staring right you in the face. The only reason why anyone won’t know what these are is if they’ve never seen a woman naked, even in pictures.

On the last page, the alien gives the human a gun that looks like well, you know what it looks like.

First instinct is to giggle at the naughty audacity that the artist had in drawing this. Second instinct is to think… wait a minute. How can something like this ever been published in a nationwide weekly, in full access to minors? Did the editor simply didn’t see it, was in on it, or simply didn’t care?

I know a few people who worked on komiks in this era, and they tell me that inserting sexual imagery in comics is commonplace. And I think that’s just allright. Barry Windsor Smith did it with impunity, but with subtlety, in his last Conan story. Even I do it once in a while, just to see if anyone can spot it. But this story, Pasada, is more blatant than anything I’ve ever seen. It’s literally in your face. It’s so close you can smell it!

    mas weird talaga itong si pol kesa kay alex nino, pumupunta ito ng gasi noon at nanghihingi ng script na lasing. hindi lang nakainom, lasing talaga heheheeh

    Oo, lasing talaga magtrabaho iyang si Pol :) Magaling yan sa komedi komiks na madalas mga artista tulad nila Erap at dolphy ang mga bida :)
