Gerry,
Let me commend you on your stand against this bill. I am curious though what laws are presently in place regarding art and nudity, if there are any?
And BTW, a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and family as you kinda disappeared around that time.

Villar is pandering the conservative vote for his shot at the presidency. Even if this bill passed, which I doubt it will, how can you stop the basic instinct of people to "reproduce" & enjoy it in one expression or another? Art is but one means, and if ever got passed, Villar, being the success story he is, won't be able to enjoy the "fruits" of his achievements. These politico-bastards are all the same in satisfying their basic urges & they'll achieve it through relentless hypocrisy & sweet fast talking.

People in this country, despite their outward shell of "respectability" are genetically horny bastards & bitches. Let's face it! We wouldn't be here without sex & it has influenced human civilization in one way or another.

In this country, the mentality is still nudity = sex = arousal = immorality. In the States & other developed countries, which our country tries to emulate, they managed to remove the "immorality" from this equation, because they realize that it is ridiculous to include & borders on religious fundamentalism. Mature civilizations learn to live with the expression of sex & they get better at it with technological progress directly proportional to the changing zeitgeist.

I do not think you can remove freedom of expression without removing pornography out of it. You may be for "artistic expression" and not for "pornography" at the same time, but that is going to be a tough thing to sell, especially in a legal argument. Pornography is legal in the United States & in other developed countries based on the tenet of freedom of expression and should be the same in our country. Pornography is STILL a form of expression. Sure you may go for the exclusion of the nudes of Michelangelo, Botticelli & etc., but who is to say that there are people out there who are aroused by them & masturbate to their images. Isn't that what pornography does to?

You may also say, "but pornography shows sex & nudes are artistic". It does not follow! Pornography also has won the right to be called a form of expression the same as "art". In a way, pornography can be classified as a form of art. Images of the naked or partially naked human body, no matter what, will stir a reaction. And it is that reaction which should be quelled by not passing this stupid bill. Instead, law makers should protect the most important thing all people have - THEIR FREEDOM!

Remember, stupid bills like these are attempts by those in power to get more power. The check to curb this is the will of the people. And if the people are swayed by ignorance, obsolete religious dogma & false pretenses, then we're a sorry lot indeed. If you sacrifice your freedom for more stability or security in your morality or life, you will receive neither.

I don't think transforming komiks into only a medium of instruction will aid its growth in the artistic sense. The whole industry may become homogenous and flavorless in the long run as individuality and freedom of the creators are thrown out the window. It will become too ordinary, and eventually, people may loose their appreciation of it. I am however in favor of tax breaks for comic creators. hehe.

The reason why I'm not voting for him too though, is that he fosters the idea that the government will solve everybody's problems; especially those of the poor, when some of the 'poor' continuously indoctrinate their children into forever holding out their hands for alms and hand out envelopes in public utility vehicles.

So he'll support komiks, as long as they meet his conditions of what komiks are supposed to be? It's a nice, nudging form of censorship then.

This gives me similar feelings as when GMA just pronounced arnis as our national martial art. Sana ginawa dati ni FVR, given he was our exercising president. Bakit itong bruha pa gumawa. No feelings of indebtedness there.

I'd like to see a copy of that bill, though.

Villar is a traditional politician, no question about that. He panders to the masses but doesn't really give a second whiff of the big picture. The mere fact that he's perforating TV with a barrage of his 30 second commercials is proof of that; the simple question is: " how is he going to recoup the money used for the campaign"? That is a serious load of moolah he's dishing out. "Paid for by the friends of Manny Villar" shheeeeyeah right.

But focusing more on the issue of the "Anti-obscenity" bill, Mr. Villar realllllly should take loooooooong look at the ramifications of such. It is a suppression of something we like to call 'freedom of expression', one of the basic building blocks of a democracy right up there with freedom of speech. The only authority I've heard of who can legitimately suppress this goes by the name of God and even He changed his mind about that (if we look at the Old and New Testaments alone, but I digress). So, no, Mr. Villar, until you get a divine halo without the benefits of a special effects budget, shove that bill where the sun don't shine (OOps, was that an obscene image to imply?) :p
