Our friendly neighborhood pirated cable signal has pretty much confirmed that there’s something wrong with our sun. This probably explains why it’s raining a lot. I don’t know how long this outage will last, but I hope it passes quickly because I’m starting to hate all this rain.

and they were singing—not bye, bye, miss american pie but…
    ” Where is the sun
    That shone on my head
    The sun in my life
    It is dead
    it is dead
    Where is the light
    That would play
    In my streets
    And where are the friends
    I could meet
    I could meet…”

    Auggie,
Hindi ba ang Panay ay parang Hawaii, may dry and rainy side. I never once remember it raining hard in Estancia. Baka doon ang dry side. The bad thing is it’s not good for agriculture. Remember when the Santo Nino was stolen during the Marcos administration. It rained for one-month straight. When it ended, all the asphalt streets of Manila became dirt roads.

Still nasa TOP TEN bestselling list sa non-fiction category ang book na “A World Without Us”. Great reading. Maybe a few billion years from now and the sun will expand devouring the earth and all the other planets. Then it’s fire will be extinguished forever. Nothing seems to make sense why we’re born at all. Kaya very popular pa rin sa Western countries, especially sa kabataan, ang concept of existentialism. Even young Pinoys, nagkakainteres sa writings nina Camus, Sartre, and all those existentialist writers.

mang gerry, niloloko ka lang ng cable company mo. we are actually at a solar minimum, next year pa ang peak ng 11 year solar cycle. baka naman yari sa foil ng chippy or granny goose receivers ng cable company mo. :D

Of course, that’s a joke (or maybe ignorance of the cable company). The sun still has 5 billion years to consume most of its fuel. Then even before sun’s death it will start to evolve into several stages..Red Dwarf, White Dwarf, and finally into a Black Hole where the force of gravity is so strong even rays of light are sucked into it.
What I’m more concern of is the effect of the sun in our changing environment. With global warming and ozone depletion, the once essential sunlight will become deadly to us and other living creatures.
The extinction of several species of amphibians (such as the Golden Frogs of South America) and several marine life as well, prove of this impending catastrophe that might happen even in our generation.

..also maybe what the cable tv is trying to say is that the sun is still not visible due to our current rainy and cloudy weather. I think that’s grossly misleading on the part of the cable company.

    Auggie, Gerry,
Oo nga, matagal ko nang hindi na-a-update ang mga blog. Busy kasi sa pagkukumponi ng bahay. Sira-sira yung apat na walls sa second floor, so I’m doing it myself to save money, and before the winter rains. Ganito sa Amerika, do-it-yourself.
