Vicente Catan Jr.

I’m currently working on a gallery for the late Vicente Catan Jr., better known as Vicatan for the online museum. Vicatan’s wife sent over scans of his little seen work which I have the honor of sharing with everyone here. The scans are quite small so I’m doing a bit of trickery to make them bigger without looking distorted.

I hope to get better scans soon. I’ve always wanted to do a gallery for Vicatan, but I have so little of his local work. I do have comics he’s done for the US like Star Lad, Billy Budd and a couple from DC mystery titles.

Vicatan passed away in May 13, 2004.

    VICATAN is he the same guy w/ a moniker of SYAMASUNDURA?… i remember his works on SPEED pocket comics(i never missed an issue but f@*#k jst like every parents my SPEED comics was burn by my they took it as a childhood nonesense to them actually) he was one of my favorite artist along w/ LAN MEDINA,HAL SANTIAGO but Mr Vicatans art is really way Awesome at those era.

    Haha… I was about to direct you to Reg’s blog Gerry and tell you that there’s a full 6-page Vicatan art goodness in there titles “Legend of Durian”. Naunahan na pala ako ng may ari ng blog mismo. But really those Vicatan art are like his vintage art before… The same quality art as “Tabak ni Bulalakaw”.

    Hi,

    Do you have Genuine Fractals Print Pro (a photoshop plug-in)? You can get amazing ‘upsized’ files using that compared to the built-in ‘Image size’ of Photoshop. The difference is amazing.

    Hi Gerry,im the fourth child and the first son of the late vicatanjr. from his first family. nice work!
    I am also the godson of hal santiago.so,comics is no stranger to me.if ur interested of his artwork,juz let me know..im willing to find it for u.u did a good job recognizing my dad’s works.keep it up..

    hi, Regz Im the fifth child of late Vicatan jr in his first wife. Im the brother of Lancelot Catan… Salamat ng marami at hindi ko akalaing may nakakakilala pala sa mga ginawa ng tatay namin,pero hindi ako masyadong pamilyar sa mga nakalagay sa web mong gawa nya… marami pa syang mga magagandang kathat guhit gaya ng JUDOKA WARRIOR,ANDROMEDA, LEGEND OF WHITE CRANE at ang pinakagusto ko sa lahat … TABAK NI BULALAKAW!…

    Good day! good job done for acknowledging the works of best artist ever born…He is indeed my favorite artist, novelist, writer, all rolled in one…im his son’s wife..and i wish sir Vicatan is still alive to witness his multitude fans..more power mr. reg and we, the family of Vicatan, sends you our heart melting appreciation for your research and artistic work done for … our beloved legendary, Vicatan..

    hellow mr gerry.im the fifth & youngest daughter of late Vicatan jrin his second wife.I just want to extend my deepest thanks to you and to all the artists, family and friends of my beloved father, for acknowledging his works.even though we all know that he is already in his next life…the memory of him and his finest works lingers forever in our hearts and minds.

    I used to watch Vic Catan drawing some of his earlier works at the porch of their apartment unit on 27-B Waling- Waling St., Roxas Dist., Q.C. in the mid-70’s. Not sure if the drawings were for the stories of Carlo J. Caparas whose setting was during the medieval times. Sometimes, I saw Mang Vic practicing his karate movements.
