This reminds me of the video you created for the Komik congress a few years ago. Where you show case all the artist photo from the past to the present.

It was one of the things that really have inspired me. :)

Hehe. After I posted that I realized its a little unclear but decided to hold off until someone comments on it.

To clarify, I meant that the saying doesn’t apply to books in the highly competitive book publishing industry where the cover will make or break you. It’s a marketing thing.

Two assumptions, of course:
1) That the customer will be seeing your book(/product) for the first time.
2) That the customer is not looking for your type of book(/product).

In this case, you said you’re looking for this type of book and thus will buy one regardless. There has been one previous one but there should be more so I think we all welcome this one by Sir Boboy and co. However I believe that the cover is important.

Btw, I like your blog even if it makes me jealous that you’ve been to a US comic con. You have a unique perspective of Pinoy comics and it’s well-written too.

I agree about the widowed and orphans, but I think the flush left paragraphs are better than justified, because it gives the eyes the oportunity to rest and it gives more “separation” between columns.

Though some of the the display text can be kerned as well. Kerning is the most neglected aspect of typesetting these days.

These are just technical adjustments that could have benefited the book more. However, what’s important is that – it is still a good idea and a book that’s good to read and to keep in your library.

The saying “You can’t judge a book by its cover” applies to people, it doesn’t apply to books (oddly enough).

Wait a minute Mark, that saying was conceived exactly for books, meaning: it doesn’t matter what the cover looks like, what’s inside is what’s important. And it’s true in this case too. There has not been any previous ones for comparison, if this is a first, so the cover is not important. I don’t think this cover is bad. I can’t wait to read the book.

I think it’s best to consider this book as a work in progress and this book as the first edition. There is bound to be much reaction to the form and content of the book as a lot of people truly and deeply care about Filipino komiks. That much I’ve learned in spite of everything. To get this book done and out by October, someone had to make the ultimate decision what goes and what doesn’t. It had to be done or else the book won’t come out at all. But I am sure that whatever feedback the book gets in this first go around would influence future editions, and bring this book as close to perfection as it possibly can.

The important thing is that a book like this is is now a reality. It’s going to be out there and can be bought easily at bookstores. Aside from the Komiks History book from the 80′s that’s now out of print, we practically had nothing like this before. And now we do. Isn’t that just absolutely great?

I totally agree that the cover page should be improved. Please do it if you still can.

Sorry guys, I just thought our first tribute book should be perfect. Anything that can be improved should be noted and fixed specially if there is yet time.

I would still get it though, revs or no revs.
