Adam David reports that Francisco V. Coching’s EL INDIO is now available at the Manila International Book Fair 2009, which I assume would be found at the Vibal Booth. The Book Fair is being held at the SMX, SM Mall of Asia from September 16-20.

O My God!!
This is a great opportunity for komiks scholars, enthusiast, collectors and alikes to have a peice of Francisco V. Coching on their shelf.

Wala pa bang Redondo, Alcala, at Rodriguez Graphic Novels in the pipeline Gerry?

    Oscar Gailan Jr:

    Ha-ha-ha!

Puwede kang mag-stand-up comedian, ah. He-he.

    Gerry:

Wala pala ito sa Amazon. Too bad, kulang sa exposure.

  8. jayem cinco on September 18th, 2009 2:56 pm

I hope you can help me out with Vibal. I have offered them a number of times if they are interested in the works of our other REAL national artists..

Rod, I aready feature the “El Indio” movie in my blog. Here’s the link: http://video48.blogspot.com/2008/09/fv-cochings-el-indio.html

    Thanks!

  14. Simon Santos on September 19th, 2009 10:12 am

I suppose mga 5 or 6 covers ito.

  15. Gerry Alanguilan on September 19th, 2009 11:02 am

Hello Simon! Yeah, I did ask if they wanted to include the original covers (some of which I got from Erwin), as well as photos of the movie which I got from you. I originally did a layout for it, a different cover, but the idea that they came up for the cover was better so I went with it.

  17. Eusebio Yu on September 19th, 2009 8:32 pm

I just got the book. Dalawa na lang natitira, pero they will replenish it for the last day of the book fair, which is tomorrow. And yes, I asked for a discount and they readily gave it to me at 20% off. Hindi naman owner kausap ko. Just their sales person. I’m pretty sure they will accomodate everyone.

  18. Carver on September 20th, 2009 1:19 am

    Huhuhuhu… Nakalimutan kong bumili…huhuhuhu…

  19. adam! on September 20th, 2009 10:13 am

Yeah, I did ask if they wanted to include the original covers (some of which I got from Erwin)

yun pala ang isang natatanging isyu sa libro, na non-issue naman talaga: sabi kasi sa copy sa likod, me recoloured cover daw, and some quiet drawings na unique to the collection … pero wala sila sa libro! pero maganda pa rin siya, at binili ko siya hindi naman para sa quiet drawings and recoloured cover art.

  20. Pinoy Comics USA on September 20th, 2009 11:13 am

    Gerry,
They really did use an excellent cover illustration. Everytime I look at it, it looks like it’s moving from right to left. Umiikot, parang buhay.
    Rod

Re covers – Actually the other El Indio covers and stills from the film are in the Coching book. Sorry, may mix-up between creative and marketing. We’re planning to give away posters of the cover art in the El Indio launch.

  22. Oscar Gailan, Jr on September 21st, 2009 9:10 pm

Totoo pala ang kasabihan: Early bird catches the worm. Unfortunately, i wasn’t able to go to MOA to purchase it. Sir gerry, do you have contact number on still where to get a copy?
    waaahhhh.
this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you po.
    When is the relaunch?

  23. Miko on September 21st, 2009 10:10 pm

Thanks to Simon Santos for the tip, got a 20% discount as well :D

Eusebio Yu’s right, I think they do readily give the discount. And they did replenish the stock last Sunday so there were a lot when I went there.

Hope you guys got your copies as well, it’s really something to say the least…

  24. Gerry Alanguilan on September 21st, 2009 10:24 pm

Oscar, they’re launching EL INDIO at Komikon on October 18. Try not to miss that one, lots of titles launching there, and you would be able to buy the First One Hundred Years of Philippine Komiks and Cartoons book. :)

  25. Miko on September 22nd, 2009 1:52 am

@ Tin – will those who got their copies at the Manila Book Fair be eligible to get posters of the cover art in the El Indio launch at the Komikon? Here’s hoping for a “yes” :D

@ Gerry – forgot to thank you earlier. You and Zara did a great job! I’ll be reading my copy for the 2nd time later to better appreciate all those beautiful lines and brush strokes :D
