Just an update on the National Artist fracas, in case people think we’ve forgotten:
Just a month ago Malacañang said in this news report:
“We [will] welcome [it] if they [will] bring the case to court so that once and for all this issue will be settled legally,” Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said in his weekly media forum aired over the government-run Radyo ng Bayan.”
And now with this news report:
Palace says National Artists title conferment final
MANILA – The Arroyo administration on Tuesday said that the conferment of the rank and title of the Order of National Artist to movie director Carlo J. Caparas and six others is already final and can no longer be overturned by the Supreme Court.
The Palace is basically saying here that it’s pre-empting the Supreme Court’s decision, saying all this legal exercise with the court is “moot and academic”.
So yeah, SO it’s NOT up the court after all.
So which is it?
Ladies and Gentlemen, here in a nutshell is the Philippine government’s excellent display of indecisiveness and inconsistency. Clap your hands, boys and girls!
