Book Blockade Not Over. What You Can Do.
Filed Under Books | 4 Comments
Apparently, the Book Blockade isn’t completely over. Books are still being taxed to individuals. They say you can apply for exemption by appearing personally at the DOF. What the fuck is that? Why do you have to file for exemption at all? Tax free is fucking tax free. What is it about “TAX FREE” do these people NOT understand?
Thankfully, I don’t have to freak out more than that as there is a legal alternative. From Chingbee Cruz:

I need your receipts ASAP.
I am collecting receipts issued by the post office for taxes charged upon claiming shipments of books.
These receipts will be turned over to UP Law Dean Marvic Leonen by Friday next week, August 28.
Please email me your scanned receipts at chingbee(dot)cruz@gmail.com. Please hold on to the original receipt. Or, if you are in the area where I work, you can hand me the original receipt at Room 2065, Faculty Center, UP Diliman.

Kaya di umaasenso Pilipinas eh, bulok talaga dito..
This is somewhat distressing and that makes me sad. D: I’m spreading this.
Hi, there.
I personally experienced this at my post office last year and filed a complaint at the Bureau of Customs (via fax and email), which was addressed by the Internal Inquiry and Prosecution Division-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service.
It was a taxing process but the results were worth it. Some months after the incident, the Customs official at my post office was replaced. (More about the incident here: http://sumthinblue.com/the-great-book-blockade-of-2009/)
If the customs official at your post office attempts to tax books when you claim them, you can contact the BOC IIPD-CIIS via Mr. Jaime Regala – (632) 5274522
Meron pa rin. The #%$% Custom just charge me 1,800+ for only 2 books from Japan and they only cost a total of 3,500+. I mean they charge more than 50% what the hell is that? And FEDEX can’t do anything about it. So they have to pay for it and later charge me the said custom tax when they delivered my package. And of course i’ll email the scanned receipts later. Those *^&%#$&(&^*(&^&(*^ Custom people.
