Published in the Philippines in 1994 by Mahal Kong Pilipiinas, Inc., the 4-issue “Batman Year One” was notable in that art enthusiasts can see David Mazzucchelli’s elegant artwork in glorious black and white.

One almost wishes the words and balloons were not there just to see David’s beautifully composed illustrations.

What’s Mazzuchelli up to nowadays? I hope he comes back to comics (but then again that’s a pretty narrow possibility).

What was horrific about these reprints were the lettering. It was pretty painful to the eys. And some of the translations were very lousy.

MKPI also had a game show, remember? The one where the middle-aged host was dressed up as Robin. :P

I remember going to their little office. Too bad they had crappy lettering.

Hey Reno, David Mazzucchelli has a brand new graphic novel entitled “Asterios Polyp” published by Pantheon Books. I can’t wait to get my copy! :D

    Hahaha!

    Ano ito… tagalog ni BAROK?

Kabaliw! Akala ko, hindi tagalog, eh.
    Masyadong stilted!

    :(

This brings back many memories. Haha! I used to collect these too but then again, like many others, baha ang naging kalaban ng mga komiks kong yun :D

They translated it. Dunno…seems better in English.

Frank Miller wrote it. It’s definitely much much better in the language he wrote it in. The translations in the other pages are so literal that it misses the point completely.

“Johnny, munting Johnny. Malaki ka ng lalaki. Malakas.”

    that’s… Creepy… LOL
