My old monitor had been going screwy since late last year. It developed a slight flicker on top of the screen which disappeared after the monitor warmed up a bit. The flicker disappeared after longer and longer periods of time, until it never went away at all.

I’ve had to resort to shrinking the screen a little bit so the flicker goes away. The flicker seemed to grow as I shrunk and flattened my screen even more, until I couldn’t shrink it anymore. I really should have bought a monitor by then, but I didn’t. It’s still working! I reasoned. Although by this time, I was effectively getting 10″ out of a 17″ monitor.

The thing that probably convinced me to get a new one was when I got the latest issue of Fudge Magazine and I realized my colors are printing lighter than I thought they would. It turns out my monitor was getting darker, and ill proportioned as well. I still draw my stuff on paper, but I letter on the computer. I drew a word balloon I thought was a perfect circle on the last page of Humanis Rex!, only to find out that upon printing, it was sort of elliptical. Kind of egg like.

I thought well, time for a new monitor! Lesson learned: don’t mind spending on the important things!

PS. Strange how things look so skinny and tall in this new monitor.

I totally agree with Ed, an LCD is a very good choice.
Less heat, low power consumption and less strain on the eyes.

Balak ko nga rin bumili ng LCD kapag naka-afford na ako.
Problems ko lang sa LCD kung sakali…
…mawawalan ng tambayan yung pusa ko, saka…
…baka makalmot rin ng pusa yung LCD. :)
