Philippine Mayor, Cabinet Member involved in the beating of a Father and Son over a misunderstanding. I\’m posting this here to help Bambee spread her story further. I can\’t even begin to imagine what that must feel like, seeing your father and brother beaten in front of your eyes, and people around you don\’t do anything because they\’re \”powerful\”. It\’s infuriating. Heartbreaking.

http://vicissitude-decidido.blogspot.com/2008/12/world-is-fucked-up.html

Times like these I wish superheroes were real. If Timawa were real they\’d be in a world of pain right now.

Don\’t anyone even attempt to say, \”That\’s how it is in the Philippines\”, \”That\’s just part of life.\” or anything similar. Because if you do, you\’re doing nothing but support atrocities like this by your fucking apathy.

January 12 Update

I am disappointed at how things have so far turned out. First of all, I don\’t fully believe that Bambee would maliciously twist facts in her blog to their family\’s advantage. Bear in mind these were written within a day of the incident and were written in a fit of emotion. While it won\’t be an accurate account, I believe it is essentially a truthful account of what she experienced as she saw it.

However, I also believe that she could leave things out and so paint a not so accurate picture of the entire event. Like the reports that her father instigated it by poking an umbrella, and was responsible for escalating the tension that was already there.

I believe now that both parties are culpable to varying degrees. And they both have to pay.

But what really happened?

People keep bringing up the \”facts\” of this case as if their \”facts\” are absolute. One party brings up \”facts\” that contradict the other party\’s \”facts\”. The truth of it is, one man\’s fact is another man\’s lie. The confusion that has ensued from this event is the result of colliding facts and people not knowing who is really telling the truth.

It\’s Rashomon right here in the Philippines.

Who do you believe? Which facts do you accept as true and absolute?

To find that out, there is one important thing to consider. In all those photos and videos that we have seen in the news, who among them came out injured and wounded in the emergency room of a hospital?

That does not give us the full picture or what truly happened. And to be honest, we may never truly know for sure. It\’s up to the individual whose \”facts\” they are going to accept.

But for all the protestations of the other side of \”It was only self defense!\” and \”They started it!\”, it is the De La Paz family who found themselves at the hospital beaten and wounded. We all saw it on TV. And those pictures do not lie. And you can bet that it\’s a fact that they did not inflict those on themselves. Someone else had to do it. Who do you think?

Regardless of the instigation of the elder De La Paz, the poking of an umbrella and harsh words are not justification for the wounds and injuries that the De La Paz family have received. Specially not under the hands of a public servant.

Someone threw a stone, but the other one threw back a boulder.

And yet it seems the one who threw the stone is the one paying more harshly for it. Bambee herself is facing a lawsuit for simply telling her side of the story, and her blog facing possible closure. There is a frustrating feeling that justice has not been fully served. And that is why I think this is an issue that will never die, no matter how much people would want it to.

Just a while ago, I read that the Pangandamans are filing counter-charges. Gumanti lang daw sila. Well, sino’ng lolokohin nyo? I hope this Secretary gets sacked! If not, I just hope the heavens hear the cries of the abused citizens. I do admire the French in what they did to the royalties during the French Revolution. In more recent times, I envy how the Argentinians spat at their politicos and so-called public servants when they abused their authority and made the economy collapse.

I was very shocked when I learned about this news! I feel so sorry for the dela Paz family for this barbaric act committed by supposed to be “high ranking government officials”. And thenerve of these people filing counter charges against the father and the 14 year old boy…what a pity! That’s impossible! Why? Sa kalakaran sa tin sa Pinas, pag opisyal ka…malayo pa lang eh kilala ka na..What more when you are golfing? I wouldn’t even dare try to cross your path…just merely seeing your body guards with guns…I would definitely back off. So yung depensa nina DAR Sec and Mayor eh puro lies….You’re just trying to preserve your dignity and honor?????? How horrible! If I were you guys, I would file my resignation right away, do make a public apology and face the cases filed against you.

  32. Carlos on December 29th, 2008 8:00 pm

I agree with Randy…though the focus must be on the main issue (the mauling)…the incompetence on the part of the security and management of the country club (at the time of the incident) must also be emphasized.
Let us pray for Bambee and family to achieve the justice they deserve.

  33. auggie on December 29th, 2008 9:59 pm

This is a very bad PR for that golf course.

  35. maria tucker on December 30th, 2008 2:32 am

Anyone showing apathy on this incident is another proof on why we will never overcome government abuse.

I bet a lot has heard about the Arab man who threw shoes at Pres. Bush. That is disgraceful! But did you see the restraint this Pres and his bodyguards have shown. They could have easily killed or maueld this man, but they didn’t.

Why would our politicians think that as governmnet officials they need to be above the law. Seem that they are forgetting, they are PUBLIC SERVANTS, not the PUBLIC is the SERVANT!

For all it is worth, the US is not the best in many ways, but one thing is for sure, abuses like this wil deserve speedy trial and speedy justice. And I will assure you, witnesses will speak the truth.

I dare the people and management of Valley Golf course, do not wait till incident like this hit home. This is how terror is sown: intimidate and silence people.

I think we should all go watch A BUG’S LIFE again…there is a lesson there for every Filipino!

  36. Jose Mari Lee on December 30th, 2008 5:52 am
